
Sally Mohr earned the title of Master Sommelier in 1995 and was the second woman in the United States to achieve that distinction. There are 140 professionals in North America and over 200 world-wide that have earned this distinguished title.
She began her wine career as an employee at The Boulder Wine Merchant in 1983 and became a co-owner of this prestigious specialty retail wine shop in 1986. In 2010, The Boulder Wine Merchant was sold allowing Sally to pursue other avenues in the beverage trade.
Sally’s fascination with the unique beverage of sake took her in a new direction. In 2009, Sally passed the Advanced Sake Professional course conducted by John Gauntner in Japan. And in 2018, she earned the distinction of Level 1&3 Sake Educator from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). She is a board member of the Sake Education Council; whose mission is to spread the word of the joys of sake. Kanpai!
Sally is a consultant for Bookcliff Vineyards to enlighten the world to the amazingness of Colorado wine.
Sally is a Master level examiner and educator with the Court of Master Sommeliers.
She is a featured speaker at the Los Angeles County Fair Wine Education, TexSom Wine Conference, and the Telluride Wine Festival.
Sally assists several Boulder and Denver area restaurants with staff training and wine list development. With her assistance, Restaurant Kevin Taylor received the Wine Spectator Best of Excellence Award in 1999.
Sally enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for wine and food with the public through tastings, seminars, and wine festivals.
She continues to put her palate to the test by judging in various regional and international wine competitions.
Besides wine, Sally enjoys spending time with her husband and two grown children in the wonderful outdoors of Colorado. Her travels have taken her to many wine regions around the world and her long term goal is to feel the dirt between her toes in all of them.
